Grants offered to help groups grow

The foundation will make up to three new grants of up to $10,000 each for the 2011 calendar year. Each grant award is renewable for two additional years for a maximum award of $30,000.

Disabilities group to honor head of Evanston service

Jane Doyle, the executive director and co-founder of Center for Independent Futures in Evanston, will be honored at a fundraiser for a non-profit consumer review website that serves the disabled.
Doyle created Center for Independent Futures in 2002 to help address the severe lack of community-based support services for individuals with disabilities. The Center focuses on transitioning young adults with disabilities into community life and serves over 200 individuals with disabilities and their families.

Women walk 208 million steps for health

That's more than double the participation level in the first year of the community health initiative last year.
