"Pensiongate" and your property tax bill
Looking at the percent of property taxes for each unit of government going to employee pensions in Evanston.
City of Evanston 25%
Cook Couinty 33%
District 65 3.25%
District 202 3.6%
How much will the city's percent increase, due to "pensiongate" in the coming years?
That is how much of the total taxes we pay the city be going to pensions? 40%, 50% or more? What about the early retirement that are council members helped create how much will that costs us will it be reflected in the pension percent?
Will the council just push the other costs to run the city over to fees? Thus the entire property tax bill may end up as a pension payment and the city will run on all the other fees and taxes?
Thus future taxpayers will be paying the bills that the council years ago did not pay - and use the money for other things ( including patronage which some wish not to believe ) That is why I named my pink pig - "Ponzi" some time ago, even though the Evanston Roundtable wanted to name him "stuffy" recently.
We don't need a blue ribbon committee to tell us we have a problem, or that we need more money - or that there is some silver bullet - the council will final need to get rid of some of their pet projects.
First thing I suggest they give back the $109,000 in medical benefits they do not need.
