Central Street market to open earlier

Evanston's Central Street Green Market will open today at 2 p.m., which is an hour earlier than previously, according to market manager Chad Proctor.

It will also close an hour earlier…at 6 p.m., rather than 7 p.m.

The change was made to accommodate shoppers, said Proctor, who is owner of Lake Breeze Organics, one of the market vendors.

Originally, it was assumed that the market would draw significant business from commuters alighting from the nearby Central Street Metra stop, but that has not proven to be the case. Hence, the earlier hours.

The Central Street Green Market is located at Independence Park, two blocks west of Green Bay Road, in the heart of the Central Street shopping district.
