Foreclosure filings decline in Evanston

Two new reports indicate foreclosure activity has declined in Evanston recently.

Realty Trac, an Irvine, Calif.-based listing firm for distressed properties, says foreclosures in Evanston now have dropped below the national average.

And the Woodstock Institute says foreclosure filings in Evanston were down 4.7 percent for the first six months of this year compared to the same period a year ago.

Realty Trac reported 23 new foreclosure filings in Evanston ZIP code 60202, 15 in ZIP code 60201, and 4 in 60203, the portion of Skokie served by the Evanston post office.

Realty Trac says the percentage of properties receiving new foreclosure filings in Evanston last month was 0.12 percent. That's lower than the national average of 0.14 percent, the state average of 0.26 percent and the Cook County average of 0.32 percent.
