Burglary attempts on Harvard Terrace

Evanston police are investigating a burglary and an attempted burglary in the 1100 block of Harvard Terrace that occurred Wednesday.

Commander Jay Parrott said that a burglar entered a home on the block at about 2:30 a.m., armed with a box cutter to cut through a window screen in the kitchen. He said the burglar was apparently scared off by the victim’s dog without taking anything from the home.

A few hours later, he said, at about 9:30 a.m., an intruder attempted entry in another home on the same block, again by cutting a window screen in the kitchen, but the home owner slammed the window down on the burglar’s hand, and he ran off.

The victim described the suspect as a black male.

Detectives have been reviewing videos from surveillance cameras in the neighborhood, Parrott said, but no arrests had been made as of Thursday afternoon.
