CTA DELAY: Switch problem halts Red Line service

Update: 3:40 p.m.: CTA Red Line service was restored by midafternoon after a noontime incident that left the front and rear wheels of a CTA train on different tracks.

A CTA spokesman said the split-switch problem near the Granville station wasn't technically a derailment because the train never completely left the tracks.

The incident also affected commuters from Evanston and Skokie seeking to continue their Purple and Yellow line trips into Chicago.

No injuries were reported.

Due to the malfunction, service has been suspended between the Howard and Addison stations, according to the CTA website, with shuttle buses operating between those stations.
