Spraying for mosquitoes set for Monday

Portions of Evanston and Wilmette, from Gilson Park on the north to Golf Road on the south, are slated to be sprayed for mosquitoes Monday night, beginning at 8 p.m. and continuing until about 2 a.m., weather permitting.

At least two persons in the Chicagoland area have died this season from West Nile Disease, which is spread by mosquitoes to humans from infected birds.

Anyone finding a dead bird in the city should notify Animal Control by calling 3-1-1. The city will retrieve the carcass and will report it to the North Shore Mosquito Abatement District, which schedules the targeted spraying.

Additional information about West Nile Disease can be found on the website of the Centers for Disease Control of the U.S. government.
