Fire station staffing
The Wall Street Journal Aug. 8 has an editorial about various spending items. One is the staffing of fire stations.
It is not about Evanston, but does bring up a question often asked. Are all the staffing needed and are resources being correctly used? Cities described re-evaluated the staffing and use, given the types of calls that are made---a low proportion being fires.
The cities recognized they don't need fire trucks and ambulances sent to each scene---heart attacks, other medical, bike accidents, other accidents where car fires were not possible. Cities found a proper allocation and policy and reduced their costs, but not effectiveness.
