Crime: Car left running disappears

A car left running in the middle of the night on a street in south Evanston wasn't there when its owner returned. And in west Evanston, a car windshield was smashed. Those are among the stories in today's daily crime bulletin from Evanston police.

Battery

Elgin a Sherman

Michael Brendan O'Brien, 19, of 1212 Noyes St., was arrested at Elgin Road and Sherman Avenue at 12:15 a.m. today and charged with simple battery. He's due in court at 9 a.m. Dec. 12.

Burglary

1700 Monroe

Someone broke a window and pushed in the screen at an apartment in the 1700 block of Monroe Street between 8 p.m. Wednesday and 12:37 a.m. today but apparently took nothing.

Criminal damage to vehicle

2100 Ashland

Someone keyed a 2009 Volkswagen parked in the 2100 block of Ashland Avenue between 4:30 and 5:30 a.m. Tuesday.

1700 Dodge

Someone smashed the windshield of a 1996 Kia parked in the driveway of a home in the 1700 block of Dodge Avenue at 10:45 p.m. Wednesday.

Drugs

1419 Dodge

Antonio D. Scott, 21, of 1911 Asbury Ave., was arrested at 1419 Dodge Ave. at 3:06 p.m. Wednesday and charged with possession of cannabis. He's due in court at 1:30 p.m. Nov. 14.

Motor vehicle theft

300 Wesley

Someone who left their 2000 Pontiac running in the street in the 300 block of Wesley Avenue at 4:15 a.m. Wednesday returned 25 minutes later to find the car had been stolen.

Shots heard

1900 Jackson

A caller reported hearing shots fired in the 1900 block of Jackson Avenue about 6:44 p.m. Wednesday. Police checked the area but found nothing.

Theft

847 Dodge

A man stole Mountain Dew from a convenience store at 847 Dodge Ave. about 11:30 a.m. Wednesday.

2000 Howard

Someone stole a purse from the shopping cart of a customer in a store in the 2000 block of Howard Street at 2 p.m. Wednesday.

1200 Darrow

Someone stole mail from the porch of a home in the 1200 block of Darrow Avenue at 11:36 a.m. Wednesday.

3300 Central

Two people stole cosmetics from the CVS in the 3300 block of Central Street about 5:50 p.m. Tuesday. The suspects are described as a 5-foot-7-inch tall Hispanic male weighing 180 pounds and a 5-foot-3-inch tall white female weighing 130 pounds.

500 Main

Ricardo Gayan, 21, of 1804 W. Huron in Chicago, was arrested at 500 Main St. at 3:05 a.m. Tuesday and charged with theft over $500. He's due in court at 9 a.m. Nov. 7.

Traffic

1915 Oakton

Heaven Russom Andemicael, 25, of 725 Washington St., was arrested at 1915 Oakton St. at 8:19 a.m. Wednesday and charged with a traffic violation. Court date: 1:30 p.m. Dec. 19.

722 Dewey Ave.

Zachary V. Ash, 33, of 4541 Sheridan Road in Chicago, was arrested at 722 Dewey Ave. at 12:44 a.m. Wednesday and charged with driving under the influence. He's due in court at 9 a.m. on Dec. 17.

2300 Green Bay

Jose Apoleyo Sandoval, 26, of 3534 N. Oak Park in Chicago, was arrested at 2300 Green Bay Road at 5:05 p.m. Wednesday and charged with a traffic violation. He's due in court at 9 a.m. Dec. 5.
