Suspect charged in Craigslist robbery

An Evanston man who tried to sell an iPad on Craigslist ended up getting knifed and bitten by the man he hoped to sell it to.

Police say the victim arranged to meet the buyer in the 800 block of Noyes Street late Sunday night. But when the victim handed off the iPad so the prospective buyer could take a look at it, the man ran off with it instead.

The victim then chased the subject on foot to the 2200 block of Maple Avenue where, police say, they scuffled and the thief pulled out a knife and stabbed the victim several times and bit him on the arm.

Despite that, police say, the victm managed to disarm the thief and retrieve his iPad.

Evanston and Northwestern University police responding to the scene about 11:56 p.m. managed to capture a suspect seen running in the area, who was later identified by the victim as the thief.

The 31-year-old victim was treated at Evanston Northshore Hospital for his wounds.

The suspect, identified as Sean Thomas, 20, of the 8100 block of S. Lafayette in Chicago, has been charged with armed robbery and is scheduled to appear in Skokie district court Aug. 29.

Why meet a stranger at midnight?

What time did this deal go down? Who is crazy enough to agree on meeting a stranger from Craigslist at almost midnight? Facts don't add up on this one!
