Teen robbed near NU campus

A 16-year-old Evanston youth was robbed early this morning near Foster Street and Orrington Avenue.

Northwestern University police say the teenager was walking northbound on the sidewalk in the 1900 block of Orrington about 12:45 a.m. when he saw two men walkine eastbound on Foster. While one stopped at the corner, the second man ran up to the victim, displayed a handgun and demanded his valuables.

The teen turned over his wallet and cell phone.

One of the robbers then took the battery out of the phone and returned it to the victim, apparently so he couldn't use it to call police.

The two suspects fled westbound on Foster and the victim ran home and one of his parents called police.

Evanston and Northwestern police searched the area but failed to locate the robbers.

The victim said one of he robbers was a black male in his early 30s, 5-feet-10-inches tall, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and a red scarf. He was unable to provide a detailed description of the second suspect.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Evanston police at 847-866-5000.

Teen robbed near NU campus - curfew violation?

Shouldn't a 16 year old who was robbed at 12:45 am have been home almost two hours earlier?
