Evanston police raid home on Ashland

Evanston police executed a search warrant Wednesday at a home at 1824 Ashland Ave.

Update 11:15 a.m.: Police now say Jerome Ty-Von Jefferson, 21, and Leonard Ira Johnson, 70, who both live at 1824 Ashland, have been arrested and charged with possession of cannabis.

County records identify Johnson as a co-owner of the home. Neighbors say that Jefferson is Johnson's grandson.

Jefferson was arrested at 1:12 p.m. at 1600 Ashland Ave. along with a second man, Sean Chrisopher McClure, 20, of 812 Dodge Ave., who was also charged with possession of cannabis.

Johnson was arrested about an hour later at his home. All three are scheduled to appear at 10:30 a.m. on July 19 in Skokie district court on the misdemeanor drug charges.

Neighbors also say that police shot an aggressive dog inside the home as they carried out the raid.

Neighbors saw fire and property standards inspectors as well as an animal control van at the small ranch-style home along with a number of police units.

Police Cmdr. Jay Parrott says the property standards inspectors were there to assess the premise for code violations.

Neighbors tell Evanston Now that they had been concerned for months about activities around the home -- which the neighbors said they suspected included drug dealing -- and that they had reported those concerns to police.

Drug house for years.

Great job EPD.

Puppycide

Another case of puppycide to an alleged "aggressive dog". All of this allegedly over cannibis possession? I'm not impressed, EPD. Shame on you.

Why don't you wait

Why don't you wait for the complete facts? Were the officers being attacked by a dog? What about the neighbor complaints?  And were the residents dealers in cannibis? Large quantities? And having property standards, fire, and others there as welll as police suggest that there was more to this house then has been described as yet.
