Challengers gather petitions for aldermanic election

At least two challengers have taken out petitions to run for positions on the Evanston City Council next year.

City Clerk Rodney Greene says District 65 School Board member Jerome Summers is planning to run for 5th Ward alderman and Mark Sloane, the former chair of the mayor's budget advisory committee, is planning to run in the 6th Ward.

Greene says other challengers may also be circulating petitions, but because this year candidates can get their petition forms online and don't have to pick them up from the clerk's office, he only knows of those two.

Summers' current term on the school board runs out next year. Sloane came in second in 2009 in a three way race for alderman with Mark Tendam and Christopher Hart that Tendam won.

Candidates have to turn in their petition forms to the city clerk's office between Dec. 17 and 24.
