Study in contrasts in House races
A stark difference in fundraising in adjacent U.S. House districts suggests Republicans don't think they have a chance in the 9th District that includes Evanston.
Campaign finance reports filed as of Thursday's deadline show Republicans outspending Democrats in the 10th Distict, but giving hardly any money at all to their candidate in the 9h District.
Incumbent U.S. Rep. Jan Schakowsky has raised $1.28 million for her race for an eighth term in Congress as of Oct. 15. Her Republican opponent, Tim Wolfe, had raised just $32,000 as of the Sept. 30 filing deadline and his report for the latest period wasn't yet available this morning.
By contrast, in the 10th District race just to the North, Republican first-term incumbent Robert Dold had raised $3.9 million as of Sept. 30 compared to $2.4 million raised by his Democratic challenger, Brad Schneider.
