Fireworks light up Evanston's night sky

Evanston's traditional Fourth of July lakefront fireworks display lit up the sky over downtown Wednesday night.

Crowds of people streamed through a still steamy downtown on their way to the lakefront for the noisy show, and if you picked your spot on the ground just right, you could catch the action right from downtown.

Here's a slide show of images captured from two vantage points -- near the Evanston Public Library, and through the trees on Church Street a bit east of Chicago Avenue.

Hi -

I'm dissapointed that you did not have anyone at the lakefront, for an unobstructed view of the fireworks.  This was one of our best shows in years.  Dave Sniader, the Fireworks Chairman, was thrilled at how the display came out, and is very proud of the final result.  Next year, have someone closer and share the full glory of the fireworks with your readers.

Fireworks

Hi Hillary,

I intentionally chose to shoot from downtown because I wanted to see what was visible from there -- and because I'd seen a great shot online that someone else took from downtown last year.

We don't have the resources to send two people on such an assignment. So having "someone" at the lakefront in addition to someone downtown was out of the question.

Maybe we'll shoot from the lakefront next year.
