Omar Brown, vice president of human resources for the Chicago Transit Authority, officially joined the Evanston/Skokie District 65 School Board last night and attended his first meeting as a board member.
Before taking the oath of office, he was welcomed by Board President Tracy Quattrocki , who said “we think you’re going to bring so much to the board, and we’re excited about this.”
Brown fills the vacancy created by the resignation of Eileen Budde in June. When a vacancy occurs, the law requires the remaining members of the board to appoint a successor, which it did by a unanimous vote after considering 18 applicants for the position, according to Quattrocki.
Brown’s term will end in April, when he is expected to run for a full four-year term.

Also attending the board meeting for the first time were two new senior members of the administration, who were introduced and welcomed by Superintendent Paul Goren.
They are John Price, assistant superintendent for schools, and Maria Allison, chief strategy officer for the district.
