Sustainability project at Bessie Rhodes
Some 35 volunteers, parents, and students from Dr. Bessie Rhodes Magnet School in Evanston/Skokie School District 65, spent more than two hours creating 150 signs promoting good stewardship and sustainability as part of the 1st Annual Green Apple Day of Service.
The project was organized by the Center for Green Schools, an arm of the U.S. Green Building Council.
In the photo, taking a pause from nibbling on green apples and sign-making are, seated, Audrey Disbrow, 6, and school principal Carlos Mendez; and standing, Dan Kehoe, marketing manager at EverLights; and Becky Brodsky, project coordinator at the school.
The signs will be placed throughout the school to remind everyone to conserve, recycle, and reuse. EverLights, a Chicago-based recycler of fluorescent bulbs, was the sponsor of the Rhodes event.
