Jewish group files suit against Northwestern

The Lubavitch-Chabad organizaion has filed a federal lawsuit alleging Northwesten University has discriminated against the group and the Jewish faith.

In the suit, Rabbi Dov Hillel Klein says university officials told him they were revoking the group's affiliation with the school and his role as a university chaplain.

The complaint doesn't say so, but the dispute reportedly stems from the university's position that serving alcohol to underage students at events at the Tannenbaum Chabad House  near campus violates the university's alcohol consumption policy.

The complaint also alleges that the university has forced Klein to stop accepting a stipend from Sodexo, the university's food service provider, for his role in facilitating the sale of kosher food on campus.

Update 12:02 p.m.: A university spokesman said the school would have no comment on the suit.
