'MashUp' sails through last-minute move

Despite a wind-induced last-minute change of venue from the beach to the Hilton Orrington, about 400 people from business and non-profit groups gathered Wednesday night for the third annual Evanston MashUp.
The event is designed, organizers say, to let people meet, connect and converse and celebrate the spirit, power and character of Evanston.
Cody Modeer and Anne Carlson, owners of the soon-to-open Howard Street wine and cheese bar Ward Eight, chat with northwest Evanston attorney Jeff Smith.
John Enright of Bluestone serves up pulled pork sandwiches as one of nearly two dozen local restaurants participaing in the "Taste of Evanston" portion of the event.
Scones and other treats from Celtic Knot were among the dessert options available.
Musicians entertained the crowd.

Can-do spirit
It's incredible that the Hilton Orrington was able to accommodate the MashUP on such short notice. This really shows the kind of can-do spirit that exists in Evanston. Great event, great community!
