Three charged in burglary

Bill SmithWednesday, Oct. 01, 2008, at 3:47 pm

Northwestern University police early Monday stopped a car Evanston police were seeking in a burglary investigation.

Evanston police say a resident in the 2100 block of Orrington Avenue told them a male intruder had just fled from the building in a waiting car.

Evanston officers broadcast a description of the suspect and car, and the Northwestern officers spotted a car matching the description being driven with its headlights off. They stopped it a few blocks away on Foster Street.

Evanston police say the burglary victim identified one of the three people in the car as the man who'd broken into the home. Police say they also recovered stolen items from the car.

The state's attorney's office has approved burglary charges against the suspects, who police identified as Glenda Michelle Mendez, 27, of 9542 Keeler in Skokie, Joseph Christian Naseef, 22, of 5003 N. Ashland in Chicago, and Rickey Allen Thomson, 19, of 2250 W. Berwyn in Chicago.

They're all scheduled to appear in Skokie district court at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 8.
