Robbers hit new bank branch Submitted by Bill Smith on Fri, 05/09/2008 - 6:57am.
Three robbers held up the newly opened branch of First Bank and Trust at 741 Main St. Thursday afternoon. Evanston police say a man entered the bank shortly before 2 p.m. and struck up a conversation with a personal banker on duty. Then another man, accompanied by a woman, walked up to a teller, presented a threatening note announcing the robbery and a bag to fill with cash. After receiving an undetermined amount of cash, the trio left the bank together and fled on foot northbound on Sherman Avenue. Bank employees told police all three robbers were in their 20s. Both men were tall with medium builds and one was wearing a black jacket. Police Commander Tom Guenther says the FBI is working with Evanston police on the investigation. |
