Again this year, Evanston joins the Illinois Arts Council in recognizing October as Arts & Humanities Month, a statewide celebration encouraging all residents to establish, deepen, and expand our relationships with the arts and humanities.

The month will focus attention Evanston's cultural resources and increase public awareness of the arts.

Bob McQuinn, associate vice president for development at the California Institute of Technology, has been named Northwestern University vice president for alumni relations and development.

McQuinn, 54, is a veteran development leader with nearly 20 years of experience covering six comprehensive campaigns.

Since 2003, he has been associate vice president for development at Caltech. McQuinn also served as Caltech’s acting vice president for development and alumni relations in 2008 and 2009, overseeing the 70-member development and alumni relations team and supporting three trustee committees.

Evanston fire units have now left the scene of  an explosion in an electrical transformer vault that happened about 10:40 this morning near the intersection of Lake Street and Dodge Avenue.

Traffic was detoured around the scene for about 90 minutes, but both streets have now been reopened and CTA buses are running their normal routes through the area again.

he Youth Job Center of Evanston will host its Fall Job Fair  from 1 to 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct 6 at the Evanston Public Library.

The job fair will offer local job seekers ages 16 and above the opportunity to meet with currently hiring employers.
