Weather shines on holiday celebrations
Beautiful weather greeted marchers and spectators for Evanston's Fourth of July parade Friday.

More than 130 groups -- many of them familiar to regular parade goers -- marched or rode in this year's event --

Social causes were also on display -- including a car that runs on used vegetable oil.
And the Democratic Party of Evanston got big applause with its Obama banner.
The Evanston Community Media Center will air its coverage of the parade at 5 p.m. every Saturday in July on cable channel 6.

Evanston Girl Scouts VISTA 8 won first place in the Youth Category for our entry in the 2008 July 4th parade in Evanston!

We gathered over 80 girls from 18 troops to march in the parade. The theme of the float was “Proud Past…Bright Future.” Led by a color guard, ten girls wore vintage uniforms, most of which were from the 1950-1960 era, representing the past of Girl Scouts. The float featured past and future, followed by a contingent of Girl Scouts with a banner that said, “We are the future!”
Under the leadership of Mary Fitch and me, the float was made possible with the hard work of many girls (over many weeks) from Troops 7 and 189.
Evanston Girl Scouts also had 5 Senior scouts, together with the Boy Scouts, in the lead color guard as the first group to open the parade.
The Girl Scouts wish to thank several businesses for their generous donations, including: Joe Ruel, Sign One, Evanston Graphics and Signs, Evanston Lumber, Lemoi Hardware, and Anton’s Greenhouse.
The success of the float was truly a team effort!
