Correspondents wanted

Bill SmithWednesday, May. 23, 2007, at 5:07 am

Evanston Now is seeking correspondents to cover community issues and events.

If you're interested in a particular aspect of life in Evanston and you'd like to cover that topic on a regular basis, we'd like to hear from you.

The topic could be the schools, youth sports, public safety, the arts -- or something else entirely.

How is this different from being an Evanston Now member?

Anybody in town can sign up for a free Evanston Now membership and post news and event listings on the site whenever they choose on whatever topic they choose.

Being a correspondent for Evanston Now involves more than that. It means covering a subject with some regularity, and may involve sitting through some dull meetings to dig out the nuggets of information that make a good story.

What's in it for me?
Depending on what topic interests you, there's the possibility of some modest payment. And you'll have the pleasure of being in the know and sharing your knowledge with your neighbors.

What's required?
You need to be able to write a news story. Professional journalism training is helpful, but not essential.
You need to be willing to spend at least a few hours a week, or every other week, reporting and writing. Just how much will depend on what interests you and how much time you have available.

How do I apply?
Send e-mail to Bill Smith, or call him at 847-733-7526
