How do I attach a file to a post?

You can attach one or more files to a blog entry or other content post on the site. But before you do, two issues to address:

  • Do not upload a file unless you have the legal right to publish it. If it's not a document you created yourself or a government document in the public domain, ask permission of the copyright holder. See our terms of service document for more about your obligations. If you have a link to the file hosted on another site, consider just linking to the file on the other site, rather than uploading it here. That eliminates the possible legal problem.
  • Be considerate and limit the size of the files you upload. Anything bigger than 1MB is likely to take an extremely long time for users on dial-up connections to download.

Now, here's how to do it:

  1. On the page where you edit your blog entry or other content post, click on the "File attachments" link toward the bottom of the page.
  2. Use the Browse button to find the file on your computer that you want to upload.
  3. Once you've selected the file, use the Attach button to upload the file.
  4. The display will refresh and show the URL for the file you've just uploaded, which will be something like "http://www.evanstonnow.com/files/mydocument.pdf"
  5. Click the "Submit" button and you'll see the file listed in the Attachment section toward the bottom of the page.
