John McCain is 72 years, Mayor Morton is close to 90 years old - does age matter in an elected official?

We all know that Barack Obama will have a landslide victory in Evanston, but I find it some what humorous that some of those  in Evanston who might be questioning John McCain's age, have voted for a Mayor who is almost 20 years older.    Does age matter or not?    Sarah Palin and Barack Obama are in their 40's is youth better?  What is too old and what is too young?  Should age matter at all? Or is it really about if they share your views or are members of the party you support?

The President of the United States is under a considerably high level of pressure, and the daily actions of this person will have global effects. To compare that position to the mayor of a small/medium sized city is ridiculous and sounds oddly like something that the Republican campaign themselves has tried to do.

Mayor Morton is not on a 24 hour schedule, traveling the globe, meeting with world leaders, and making some of the most important decisions in the history of mankind. She has a difficult job, for sure, but there is no comparison between the two positions. Mayor Morton is not the commander in chief of the largest military force in the world, and cannot affect the global economy by what she says or forgets to say in a speech.

John McCain might make a great mayor, and I doubt his age would be a big issue in such a campaign. He's not running for mayor though, he's running for a much more important position and people have a right to question anything and everything about him and his running mate. (And likewise with his opponents).
