Voter registration deadline is Jan. 8

City of EvanstonThursday, Jan. 03, 2008, at 7:00 am

Evanston City Clerk Mary P. Morris says her office will be open this Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon for voter registration.

Regular voter registration for the Feb. 5 primary closes on
Tuesday in accord with Illinois statutes that require closing
voter registration 28 days preceding an election.

Residents need to provide two pieces of identification to register -- one with name and current address, the other with name only.

Acceptable identification includes: Illinois driver's license, Illinois State ID, checks with name/address printed on, and utilities bills.
Persons who have moved need to re-register in order to vote in the upcoming primary.

To register to vote, you must be a citizen of the United States, 18 years of age on or before Feb. 5 and live in your precinct at least 30 days before an election.

Persons who register to vote before the regular voter registration deadline January 8 can vote early.

Grace-period registration and voting takes place Wednesday, Jan. 9, through Tuesday, Jan. 22, only at the Cook County Clerk's main office at 69 West Washington St., Room 500, Chicago.

Grace-period voters must vote absentee either in person at the Clerk's downtown office immediately after signing up to vote or receive an absentee ballot by mail that can be completed at home and returned to the Clerk's office before Election Day. Grace-period registrants are not allowed to vote at the polls on Election Day or vote at any early voting site.
