Council to vote on Foster Field upgrade

Bill SmithMonday, Sep. 08, 2008, at 4:33 am

The City Council is scheduled to vote tonight on awarding a $1.1 million contract to renovate Foster Field.

The field, adjacent to the Fleetwood-Jourdain Community Center at 1655 Foster St., will see a reconstructed playground, tennis courts, basketball court, parking and lighting if the project is approved.

City staff is recommending that the contract be awarded to Clauss Brothers, Inc. of Streamwood, the lowest bidder that met the city's minority hiring requirements.

Several alternate items included in the bid proposal -- including fencing, landscaping, benches and bike racks -- are being excluded from the project award because their cost exceeded this year's budget for the project.

City staff hope to include at least some of those items in a supplemental project at the field next year.

Over half the cost of the project is being paid for with state and federal grants. The renovation project is scheduled to be completed by next June.

The council tonight is also scheduled to approve an $84,840 contract to renovate the kitchen at the Fleetwood-Jourdain Center.
