Feedback sought for transportation plan

The city is seeking views about transportation needs in Evanston with an online survey.

It asks about a variety of funding priorities -- from whether the city should pay the full cost of paving alleys and sidewalks -- to whether it should pay to expand local bus service.

Those who respond to the survey can also indicate whether they think the city should install red-light cameras to catch traffic scofflaws or build more bus shelters.

The survey will be available on the Multi-Modal Transportation Plan page of the city website from now through Sept. 21.

The city will also host a public workshop to on transportation needs at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 1 in the Parasol Room of the Evanston Civic Center, 2100 Ridge Ave.

Workshop participants will be able to comment on existing conditions and important transportation issues. An interactive polling session will be conducted at the workshop, allowing participants to immediately see the transportation issues important to the Evanston community.

The city's transportation division began developing the transportation plan in February.

Recently, a sidewalk survey was completed by about 30 volunteers. That information will be used to prioritize sidewalk improvements in town.

The transportation plan is scheduled to be completed by the end of the year.
