Why Should I Care What Laundry Detergent to Use?

micmurray0Saturday, Nov. 22, 2008, at 9:56 am

It is an unfortunate reality that the average laundry soap that is sold at the local mass merchant store is not environmentally safe. It was discovered that chemical laundry detergents may contain phenols, optical brighteners, phosphates, EDTA, artificial fragrance, ammonia, sodium sulphate, and a chemical foaming agent.  All of these substances have an undesirable effect on humans, our planet, or both.

Throughout our childhood we have been accustomed to washing our laundry with particular laundry detergents because these brands are what our parents and grandparents purchased. We’ve been conditioned since childhood to associate “clean” with high foaming, strong scented chemical detergents.  The interesting thing is that before the invention of chemical detergents, people traditionally used natural methods to clean their clothing simply because there was no other way to do it.

The problem is that sometimes looking for the most environmentally conscious way to live takes extra time and can be expensive. Knowing that some chemical detergents cause skin irritations and are non-biodegradable is one strong reason why it is our laundry that we may need to start our journey towards green living. When you pour that scoop of chemical laundry detergent into the water to let it wash your clothing, at the end of the cycle, when the load is done, that contaminated water is going out with the dirt and water into the environment. On a broader scale, if you do 4-5 loads of laundry a week, that is a lot of contaminated water full of soap going down the drain and into the environment.

There are many reasons why “going green” with our laundry is beneficial. Most importantly, when it comes to our most precious gift, our children, special care should be taken when washing their clothes. When you become a new parent, one of the many amazing things you will notice is that your baby's skin is very soft and sensitive. That skin is just getting used to the outside ailments so it is up to mom and dad to do all they can to protect it and not expose it to anything that would cause irritation or a rash. This care starts with the types of things you buy for your child. It pays to do some homework so you get up to date on the best laundry products to use on baby's clothing so that there is no chance of clothing or washing the bedding in a harsh chemical that is going to cause skin irritation.

There are a number of natural agents that work well as a laundry detergent and clean your clothes just like the major brands while being environmentally safe. GreenerLaundry.com provides their customers with a choice of different natural washing agents. These agents range from biodegradable soaps, non chlorine bleaches and 100% natural soap nuts, which is the gentlest form of cleaning your laundry.

Laundry is a fact of life. You can use an artificial product that contains undisclosed chemicals that pollute our environment and cause harm to our skin or you can start living green and pave the way to a healthier life, one that impacts you, your family and the planet.  The time is now, and GreenerLaundry.com make it easier for you.  They will remove the hassle of doing laundry.

Non-toxic, environmentally friendly laundry products, cleaning and personal care products are offered under the Natural Choices brand. There are also hypo allergenic products. The manufacturer is one of the only publicly held corporations that sells green clean products. They private label through a number of retailers and are linked by a number of websites, but you can order direct at www.ecogeeks.com

Being a public company and selling higher volumes than the usual mom-and-pop green clean companies, their products are more price competitive with typical cleaning products. So it makes the choice to go green less of a fiscal sacrifice. They work exceptionally well.
