American Diabetes Association Honors Saint Francis Hospital
SAINT FRANCIS HOSPITAL AWARDED PRESTIGIOUS DIABETES EDUCATION ACCREDITATION
Evanston, IL (June 12, 2008) – Saint Francis Hospital today announced that the American Diabetes Association (ADA) has awarded the hospital’s Diabetes Education Program with a prestigious Education Recognition certificate through 2011.
The ADA’s Education Recognition designation is a rigorous program that hospitals or other Diabetes Centers may participate in voluntarily to ensure that their diabetes educational programs meet the National Standards for Diabetes Self-Management Education Programs. The standards were developed and tested under the auspices of the National Diabetes Advisory Board in 1983 and revised in 2000.
According to the American Diabetes Association, there are 20.8 million people or 7% of the population in the Unites States who have diabetes. While an estimated 14.6 million have been diagnosed, unfortunately, 6.2 million people are not aware that they have the disease.
Saint Francis Hospital has an exceptional Diabetes Self-Management Support Program, including free monthly diabetes education meetings, emotional support, and on-staff registered dietitians, diabetes educators, nurses, physicians, podiatrists, exercise physiologists, and counselors to ensure that patients have access to every possible resource in managing diabetes and its complications.
For more information about the program or support group meetings, visit sfh.reshealth.org or call 1-877-RES-INFO (1-877-737-4636).
