Crime reports

The crime map initially shows incidents of all types reported in the past 30 days.

Effective 12/14/09, push pins are color coded as follows:

• Red = Crimes against persons, including homicide, rape, robbery, assault and battery.
• Yellow = Major property crimes, including burglary, theft, motor vehicle theft and arson.
• Blue = Other incidents.

Colors for incidents before 11/14/09 are not significant.

Click on any incident's push pin marker to open a pop-up window that provides a link to the full description of the incident.

Use the Date range fields to select a different period. (A pop-up calendar will appear when you click in the field.) The date used is the date an incident was reported on Evanston Now, not the date the incident took place.

Use the Crime type field to restrict the display to one or more crime categories. Click on a single category. Shift-click to select a range of categories. Control-click to select multiple categories that aren't adjacent to each other on the list.

When you've made your selections, click the Apply button.

The crime database includes incidents from the beginning of 2008 to the present.
