Thanks Bill. I read up on it a bit, and it does indeed seem like a lot of hyperbole. Thanks for the info!
The flier, which I haven't seen, probably is referring to a meeting of the Plan Commission being held tonight (10/15, not 10/14) at 7 p.m. (not 6:30 p.m.).
At that meeting the commission is scheduled to begin discussion on a rezoning proposal for the old Mayfair rail corridor that runs through the 5th Ward.
The plan has been subject to a boatload of public meetings over the past couple of years and was approved last month by the commission's zoning subcommittee.
The commission has a very full agenda tonight, and it's not clear whether it will actually vote on the proposal, but you never know for sure.
Much more information about the rezoning proposal is available on the city website.
Evanston Now's most recent story on the proposal is here, and you can find more of our stories about it listed here.
Once the Plan Commission votes on the rezoning proposal, it will go to the City Council's Planning and Development Committee and then to the full City Council, both of which allow public comment on issues, so the flier's assertion that the meeting this week "may be your last chance to speak" is at best an exercise in hyperbole.
You can judge for yourself whether the proposal would "zone you out of Evanston" after you've learned more about it.
Bill
