Flood disaster assistance OK'd

Bill SmithTuesday, Oct. 07, 2008, at 4:36 pm

The Federal Emergency Management Agency has announced that federal disaster aid is now available to individuals in Evanston affected by last month's severe flooding.

Residents and business owners who sustained losses can apply for assistance online or by calling 1-800-621-3362.

Applicants will need to provide their social security number, a current phone number and mailing address, the address of the damaged property and information about private insurance on the property.

The program, which includes both loans and grants, covers only basic needs and generally does not compensate for all losses.

Persons who have difficulty contacting the federal agency directly can call the Evanston Office of Emergency Preparedness at 847-866-2999 for assistance.
