Where are the public benefits?
There has been a large amount of discussion concerning the proposed Tower, much of it adding to global warming.
There are really only a few issues:
Cost to schools of new Civic Center
To the current and future members of D65 and D202 School Boards:
As you are aware, there is some controversy over the status of our current Civic Center, and there are two referenda concerning that on the coming ballot along with candidates for the boards of the two school districts. One of the referenda was initiated by Friends of the Civic Center, who gathered over 2100 signatures in favor. The other referendum was initiated by the City Council, which has admitted it contains erroneous numbers, and serves to confuse an important issue. We have filed a legal action to have it removed, and we will try to explain why we deem it necessary to vote for the Friends of the Civic Center referendum.
Kendall Property Rezoning

Re: Kendall Property Rezoning
The repeated mantra from the council for their Kendall decision was development. It was continuously reiterated, hoping that all, especially the neighbors, would accept it as the only reasonable and sane decision. Even though after three years of the developer’s insisting high density was necessary because of economics, Smithfield has modified the proposed plan to a final outcome of R1 with some duplexes thrown in an R3 segment.
A New Health Menace
One of my current concerns is the IDIOT syndrome (Involuntary Dropping Incidents Of Trash). We are on a corner a few blocks east of the Dodge/Dempster food emporiums and it seems that some ingredient in the food attacks the central nervous system of the consumimg individuals. This is a very fast acting agent -- a few blocks and symptoms occur. The symptoms are easy to observe: victims can no longer grasp their food or drink containers, which they inadverently drop. This is often accompanied by very loud unintelligible vocal utterances, especially at night, and often correlates with when they are in groups. Thus it seems not to single out unique susceptible individuals, but a large number of individuals.
