YJC hosts employer recognition open house

The Youth Job Center hosted an Employer Recognition Event and Open House for its employer partners on Thursday.

Nearly 50 community members attended the open house to learn more about YJC employer services, programs, and volunteer opportunities.

YJC Employment Outreach Coordinator Jordan Burghardt also honored ETHS Nutrition Services, Starbucks, JC Penney, and Van Ru for their commitment to employing youth in their community.

Executive Director Sacella Smith discussed next steps as the organization celebrates nearly 30 years of providing job-training and placement services for youth.

"It's so important to recognize employers who are committed to youth employment and thank them for their continued support of the YJC," Burghardt said. "We wouldn't be able to successfully do our jobs without having employers invested in our success as well."

Jose Leon, store manager of Starbucks in downtown Evanston and YJC Business Advisory Council Member says, "The YJC's Employer Recognition Event was not only a great opportunity to recognize employers' contributions to the YJC, but also to learn about other partnership opportunities with this tremendous organization."

The Youth Job Center is a nonprofit agency in Evanston that assists job seekers ages 14-25 in finding employment and works with employers to help them meet their staffing needs.
