Three honored by American Chemical Society

Northwestern University’s chemistry department in the Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences has achieved something new in its history: Three faculty members -- all physical chemists -- have received awards from the American Chemical Society during the same year.

Four at NU win NSF awards

 Four young Northwestern University faculty members -- Jose Andrade, Darren Gergle, Jiaxing Huang and Cheng Sun -- have received faculty early career development awards from the National Science Foundation.

The minimum award size is $400,000 for a five-year period.

Chemist receives two honors

Northwestern University chemist Tobin J. Marks, a world leader in the fields of organometallic chemistry, chemical catalysis, materials science, organic electronics, solar energy, photovoltaics and nanotechnology, has received two major honors from the Technical University of Munich.

NU prof 'outstanding young investigator'

Northwestern University’s Mark Hersam has been selected to receive the Outstanding Young Investigator Award from the Materials Research Society. The award will be presented in April during the 2009 MRS Spring Meeting in San Francisco.

Two from NU named Sloan research fellows

Two Northwestern University faculty members have been named Alfred P. Sloan Research Fellows.

They are Brian Odom, assistant professor of physics and astronomy, and Giorgio Primiceri, assistant professor of economics, both in the Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences.

NU prof named to engineering panel

Northwestern University researcher Gregory B. Olson, considered one of the founders of computational materials design, has been elected a member of the National Academy of Engineering.

NU prof wins Defense Department award

Northwestern University’s Monica Olvera de la Cruz has been selected by the U.S. Department of Defense as a fellow in its National Security Science and Engineering Faculty Fellowship program.

Police sergeant graduates from NU program

The Evanston Police Department has announced the graduation of Sergeant Diane Davis from the School of Police Staff and Command at Northwestern University's Center for Public Safety.

Sergeant Diane Davis completed the ten week staff and command program that over nearly three decades has graduated over 9,000 students.

Nichols, Haven teams tops at 'WordMasters'

Three teams of students from Haven and Nichols middle schools recently won highest honors in the WordMasters Challenge, a national language arts competition entered by approximately 220,000 students annually.

The competition consists of three separate meets held at intervals during the school year.

NU student wins Churchill scholarship

The Winston Churchill Foundation has awarded Northwestern University senior Kelsey Stoerzinger a Churchill Scholarship to pursue graduate studies at the University of Cambridge.
